What he delivered wasn\u2019t just advice; it was a<em> wake-up call <\/em>for anyone serious about building a startup that lasts \u2014 or exits strong. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:44px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>1. Startups are like rock bands.<\/strong><br\/>Founders often over-focus on product and forget to prove that anyone cares. Clemens illustrated this with his own story as a musician: having a great album (MVP) wasn\u2019t enough without a loyal fan base. In startups, just like in music, investors don\u2019t invest in ideas \u2014 they look for <em>signals<\/em>: traction, users, momentum, and the ability to execute.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:44px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>2. Play the VC game \u2014 or don\u2019t play it.<\/strong><br\/>Not every business is built to raise venture capital. Clemens explained that VCs only invest in companies with the potential to return 50\u2013100x their investment. That usually means highly scalable models like software, SaaS, or marketplaces. If you\u2019re building a more operational or local business, the right path might not be VC \u2014 but bootstrapping instead.   <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:44px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>3. Quality wins.<br\/>In a crowded space, quality is your advantage. From pitch decks to product to communication \u2014 everything reflects your execution. Clemens emphasized that VCs bet on teams, not just ideas. A strong team can pivot, adapt, and outperform. And showing quality early is your first form of traction.   <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:44px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>4. Your company <em>is<\/em> the product.<\/strong><br\/>In tech, you&#8217;re not just building a tool \u2014 you\u2019re building a business that others may want to buy. Investors and acquirers aren\u2019t only buying code. They&#8217;re buying your market positioning, team, brand, and growth curve. If you&#8217;re not building something acquirable, you might not be thinking big enough.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:44px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p><strong>5. Plan your exit early \u2014 even if it feels too early.<\/strong><br\/>Exit conversations tend to come too late. Clemens urged founders to align on goals and timelines from the beginning. Whether you&#8217;re heading for an acquisition, IPO, or strategic merger, the best exits happen when they\u2019re planned \u2014 not when they\u2019re rushed.
